Pattaya - 2014 Oct 31

Paid for another day at Sureena Hotel ($18); owner gave me a 50 baht discount.

Ate lunch with Narong at the language school; tried two new food items. Shared pictures.

Heavy rain at noon; flooded the beach road.

Walked to the mall, bought gym shorts ($13).
Strong thunderstorms and very close lightening strikes at 2 PM.

Practiced Thai alphabet.

Rested for Halloween on Walking Street. I've already seen people walking around in costume. Hope the rain stays away.

Pattaya - 2014 Oct 30

I finally found it! I was out last night on Soi LK Metro, and on my way home, I "stumbled" upon the long sought after $3/hr foot massage.
Always some action on Walking Street.
Checked-out of Nags Head this morning at eleven, and moved back to Sureena Hotel on Soi 13/2. It's a bit noisy, but has a balcony somewhat overlooking the ocean.

Ate chicken and rice ($1) from my usual street vendor; a little push-cart restaurant that sets-up shop everyday across from the language school.

Dr. Narong saw me eating, came over, and has convinced me to work with a cute university student Saturday morning.

Walked on the beach for an hour; drank and ate a coconut.
Downloaded a few apps to help me learn Thai. My strategy is to learn the numbers, alphabet, and 1,000 most common words. Then simply quit speaking English. I've already started using Thai words for numbers when paying or asking the prices.

Helped Olga with a couple of her English to Russian business translations at 3 PM.

Massage at five.

Koh Larn - 2014 Oct 29

Up at ten, moved across the street to The Nags Head Hotel ($20).
Walked to Pattaya Pier and caught a ferry to Koh Larn ($1). 45 minutes later we arrived on Tawaen Beach.
Ate lunch, looked around for a couple of hours, then caught the ferry back to Pattaya.
Back to hotel at 4 PM with a headache, took two Advil and a massage.

Pattaya - 2014 Oct 28

This morning I went on a six-mile, four-hour walk around the sights of South Pattaya. First, to the pier to check on the ferry schedule to Koh Larn for tomorrow.
Then I wandered thru the boatyard.
Caught a movie in production. Was hoping they'd call me over as an extra, but I guess I didn't fit the scene.
Nothing like a lighthouse and a viewpoint to distant islands to churn up a sailors dreams.
Further up the hill to the monument of the Admiral.
Caught out in the rain on my way to see the Big Buddha and surrounding statues.

Pattaya - 2014 Oct 27

Bought a new pair of jeans and a shirt last night; just get tired of wearing the same old thing, no matter where you're at.
The sailboat I made an offer on has been sold. At the moment, I still prefer Thailand over the Caribbean anyway.

Checked-out of Sureena Hotel this morning, and back into Privi Suites - nicer and quieter.
Had a mixed-fruit smoothy ($1) on my way to Tony's Gym. After workout, drank and ate a fresh coconut ($1) on the beach. Then spicy chicken and rice for lunch ($1).

Massage ($5) at three, and a nap to rest-up for tonight.

Pattaya - 2014 Oct 26

Last night, did a back-to-back-to-back, Foot-Thai-Oil three-hour massage combo ($17).

Relocated closer to the ocean on Soi 13/2 - Sureena Hotel ($19). It's more like a real studio apartment with a balcony overlooking the Soi and a view of the ocean.

To the beach at eleven, rented an umbrella and chairs for the day ($1). Rain at noon.
Jogged to the gym and back for exercise. Was going to workout, but after two months of no running I was too weak to waste a gym visit.
Bought another month of phone service ($16).

Back to my umbrella at 2:30 PM.

Started chapter 2 of Thai. Downloaded the Thai keyboard on my phone to get more practice - สวัสดี = Hello.

Pattaya - 2014 Oct 25

Changed hotels again at noon, Max Hotel ($22)...still not satisfied.
Dr. Narong talked to me for a while at lunch. He still wants me to teach, and is going to help me learn Thai. I guess it will be a good break from the gogo's and massages. I bought an Introductory Thai textbook from him ($8).

Walked a few blocks to the Central Festival Shopping Mall - another huge, six-story complex. Found a new, sturdier pair of flip-flops; tired of wearing hot shoes all the time.

Started Chapter 1 of the textbook.

Sawàt dii khráp = Hello, good morning/afternoon, and goodbye.

Pattaya - 2014 Oct 24

Awake and out of hotel room at noon, Burger King combo meal for lunch ($7).

Told the language school owner I'd pass on teaching for now. Then an hour massage, nap, fruit shake, and caught out in rain at 4 PM.

Made an offer on a catamaran sailboat anchored in the Bahamas.

Caught out in a heavy rain again at 7 PM!

Pattaya - 2014 Oct 23

Pattaya was hopping last night, very crowded. I visited several bars, and did alot of people watching.
Saw a few good shows by the street performers, caught this magic show on video.

Found a really good deal on hotels.com, and booked the Privi Suites for a night ($24). Moved to it this morning, it's the nicest I've stayed in so far, and internet works. Used my reward-points and booked tomorrow night for free.

Paid for three visits at Tony's Gym on Walking Street ($5), and put in a good workout.

Inquired at a language school next to hotel and the owner wants me to come teach Saturday for a few hours. I hesitantly said yes, but I don't think I can legally work in Thailand, so will probably pass.
